Jan 19th: Cells
Your body seems to be all one piece, but it is actually made up of trillions of tiny pieces, called cells. In this hands on interactive class students will explore how different kinds of cells have different kinds of jobs. Learn about Lung cells, Muscle cells, and Brain cells. Even take a look at some of your own cells! Find the surface area of your skin! Build a Brain!
Feb 9th: Your Amazing Heart - Dissection Lab
How many chambers are in the heart? How big is your heart? What are ventricles? Learn all about your amazing heart as we dissect a beef heart. This class is not for the faint at "heart."
March 8th: Your Senses-Up Close and Personal - Dissection Lab
Through interactive experiments students learn the answers to questions like: Do look-a likes always taste a-like? How sweet is sugar? How is milk similar to feathers, hair, and wool? What are the parts of the eye? As we learn about all of the senses students will answer these questions and many more as we take a look at a beef tongue and build a model of the eye.
April 19th: Inside Out
Make a life size replica of YOU -on the inside! With a partner, the students will trace a life-sized replica of their own body. Students will build their own models as they place the organs where they are located in the body.
May 17th: Dissection Lab
See how it all fits together as we dissect a frog. Science has never been so much fun!
Jane McCann is MASA’s director of curriculum and instruction. She has a B.A. in Elementary Education with a minor in Art and is Gifted Endorsed. She has taught the AAIM (Accelerated Academic Individualized Model) class and is currently teaching 4th grade at Dommerich Elementary in Maitland, FL. The AAIM program is a full-time, multi age program specializing in differentiated curriculum for the profoundly gifted. Jane has also worked as a free lance artist and muralist. She created an apprenticeship program that allowed students to train under her tutelage while completing many projects commercially and residentially in the central Florida area.
